United Way’s goal is to be the “go-to” for volunteer engagement to connect community members who want to make a difference with meaningful volunteer opportunities to impact change and help build lasting relationships.

So we are excited to announce our new volunteer platform, GetConnected Central through Galaxy Digital. Galaxy Digital is a web-based social solutions company that helps build stronger communities through simple technology that improves lives and connects people, organizations and resources. Galaxy Digital supports volunteer centers and organizations across the country and its products are designed to engage volunteers, give users an enjoyable experience and make good things happen in communities of all sizes. Currently, over 450 United Ways use this platform.

In early 2019, United Way of Central Missouri worked with a third party to administer a volunteer platform. While that platform was critical in deploying volunteers immediately after the tornado in May of 2019, it was evident that there were other platforms that could enhance United Way’s community volunteer coordination services.

After much research, United Way of Central Missouri decided on GetConnected Central, as it was a great fit for what we were looking for in a volunteer platform. This platform will be a community hub for all volunteer opportunities, not just for the United Way of Central Missouri and its 28 partner agencies, but also for any approved organization within its nine county service area.

MId America Bank, a long-time United Way of Central Missouri partner, saw the value of this volunteer platform for our community, and agreed to be our platform sponsor. With their generous sponsorship, United Way staff has begun the onboarding process and training necessary to roll out the new platform mid-summer!

The goal of the new volunteer platform is to accomplish work efficiently and effectively, match volunteers with their passions, communicate clearly with volunteers and community leaders and offer relevant, meaningful volunteer experiences to assist community-minded people to give back and make a difference. GetConnected Central is a user-friendly way to accomplish these goals and so much more!

Local organizations will have the capability to utilize the platform to recruit volunteers for an event or project, or to look for group volunteer opportunities for their employees. Individual community members will be able to narrow down opportunities based on their interests, availability and skills! Another great feature the platform offers is a wide variety of reporting options for both organizations and individuals. Individuals will also have access to an extensive volunteer resume.

Examples of opportunities that will be available on the site include, but are not limited to, ongoing opportunities such as becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, a committee or Board member or a CASA advocate; or one-time opportunities, such as helping paint a classroom at Little Explorer’s Discovery Center or yard work at The Special Learning Center. The opportunities are endless!

Local volunteerism is the power behind long-lasting change, and by introducing a new, dynamic online platform to the central Missouri community, United Way of Central Missouri is the driving force for volunteer engagement, donations and impacting change in the community. The new platform will do more than just create matches among the service community and private citizens; it will also help to build lasting relationships.

Also, mark your calendars for the United Way of Central Missouri’s Days of Caring taking place on Thursday, September 9 and Friday, September 10, 2021. Days of Caring is a two-day community-wide effort sponsored by our friends at Scholastic that brings together volunteers and local businesses to provide short-term, project-focused volunteer service with United Way and its 28 agency partners.



Every year, over one thousand volunteers share their time and talent to fight for a brighter future for everyone in our community. Our volunteers come from all skill sets and walks of life, but what they share is an immeasurable passion for improving our community. They are bankers and public servants, teachers and business owners. They are our every day heroes!

Volunteering connects you with the community in a unique way. You volunteer to give back while also getting involved in addressing important issues facing our community. You volunteer to change lives--and helping people live their best possible lives not only helps others, it benefits our entire community for generations to come by making a real and long-lasting impact!


Once projects are finalized and posted by community organizations, individuals and groups can review the list of volunteer projects and sign up for the opportunity that most aligns with their passion at the time that works best for their schedule.
