Disaster Recovery Grants

$70,000 to be awarded to area non-profits

(Jefferson City, MO, October 2, 2019) United Way of Central Missouri (UWCEMO) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the immediate release of Disaster Recovery Grants based on needs resulting from the May 22 tornado and subsequent flooding. To be responsive to the needs of area non-profits, the United Way Board of Directors approved up to $70,000 in one-time Disaster Recovery Grants. The grants are designated to support an organization’s recovery programs, capacity and operational needs. Additional United Way Disaster Recovery Funds are being utilized to directly assist disaster survivors to recover and rebuild.

UWCEMO President Ann Bax said when reflecting on the aftermath of the disasters, “United Way’s role was to work behind the scenes to provide support to manage the volunteers and donated resources as well as the efforts of our partner agencies, American Red Cross and The Salvation Army, as they provided initial boots on the ground in those first days and weeks. These grant dollars allow us the opportunity to provide additional support to many area agencies—not just United Way partner agencies--who have felt the impact of the tornado and flooding in their day-to-day work,” Bax said. “Our hope is that these grants will allow these agencies to address the additional needs they have experienced as a result of the recent disasters.”

Disaster Recovery Grants are open to all health and human service 501(c)(3) non-profit agencies in the UWCEMO service area of Cole, Osage, Moniteau, Miller, Camden, Morgan and southern Callaway counties. Applications will be evaluated by United Way staff and a volunteer committee of community members and will receive final approval by the UWCEMO Board of Directors. Grant funding will be distributed by the end of November.

Grant applications closed Friday, November 1. For questions please contact Ann Bax, President, at ann.bax@unitedwaycemo.org or (573) 636-4100.
