Improving People's Health

PEOPLE SUCCEED IN LIFE WHEN THEY ENJOY GOOD HEALTH.

Health is such a basic need; it impacts every aspect of a person's daily life. A child with a toothache is unable to concentrate in school and succeed. A family without health insurance is often overwhelmed to the point of bankruptcy by the financial burdens of an illness. Seniors without prescription assistance have to make frightening decisions on which medicine they can afford and which ones they will go without.

Whether it is a neighbor without health insurance, a victim of abuse, or someone struggling with mental illness or an addiction, United Way works to ensure everyone has access to affordable and quality care so they can lead safe, healthy, and rewarding lives. United Way supports local health and human service programs.

Join United Way and make your community stronger by ensuring families receive the healthcare they need to stay healthy and thrive. Every day our friends, neighbors and colleagues are forced to live with the fear of getting sick or injured. We can make a difference and the time is now.

United Way in Action…

Here are just a few examples of United Way's impact on our community:

  • 263 elderly residents of Cole County received life-sustaining meals each week through the homebound meal program with Senior Nutrition Center.
  • 1,197 pairs of shoes were provided to low-income children in area schools through the Dental, Eye and Shoe program.
  • 293 individuals were provided mental health services through Pathways Community Behavioral Health Care with United Way dollars.
  • 297 elderly and disabled were helped with in home services so they could remain safely at home and avoid prolong or avoid more costly institutional care.
  • 3,417 patients were provided affordable primary care services including medical, dental and mental health through the Community Health Center of Central Missouri.
