Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It's essential to getting
and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits. And it's fundamental to a
community's economic prosperity: a well-educated workforce attracts world-class jobs.
Helping Children and Youth Achieve Their Potential.
United Way in Action…
Here are just a few examples of United Way's impact on our community:
- 2586 Girl Scouts participated in programs that build courage, character, and confidence including activities such as community service projects, healthy living activities, career activities, and arts and crafts.
- 2698 Boy Scouts were taught leadership, teamwork, community service, healthy lifestyles, ethical decision-making, drug abuse prevention, and crime prevention.
- 333 children participated in the activities of the Boys & Girls Clubs last year.
- 209 children received assistance for childcare, before and after school care and/or summer camp at the local YMCA.
- Over 15,000 local students participated in drug prevention programs through the Council for Drug Free Youth.
- Over 150 children were helped with a big brother or big sister through Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
- 59 adult students received help in learning to read with volunteer tutors through Adult Basic Literacy.
- Over 280 kids received a positive role model and mentor with a Big Brother or Big Sister through Missouri Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters.
