Being entrusted with $1.92+ million of your generous donations is a responsibility United Way, the Board of Directors, and its  volunteers take very seriously. It’s during this time of year we are wrapping up the Fund Allocation process, which determines how your donations will be allocated to our 28 United Way partner agencies. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are extremely proud to say that United Way and its Fund Allocation volunteers have exercised great diligence in vetting all allocation requests. It is through this process that we are able to ensure that each charitable dollar is making the biggest impact possible to help thousands in our community. To all who took part in this process I’d like to thank you for your many hours of hard work. I’d also like to thank all of the employers who have graciously allowed their employees to take time away from their ‘real jobs’ to help out with this important, critical process!

Along with the $1,342,000 in funding for the United Way of Central Missouri’s partner agencies, $80,000 in one-time  Community Support Grants will be awarded to area non-profit health and human service agencies. This opportunity is only possible when the United Way of Central Missouri surpasses its campaign goal the previous year. It is thanks to our incredible community that United Way of Central Missouri has been able to make one-time Community Support Grants a consistent opportunity for area agencies for over ten years! This year, United Way received 29 grant requests totaling over $314,000, which speaks to the great need in the community. The grant requests are being reviewed by United Way’s Strategic Funding Committee and funding recommendations will be sent for approval to the United Way Board of Directors. Once the requests are fully vetted the agencies will be presented with a check at a News Conference on the morning of June 6. We are proud to play a role in what these agencies will accomplish for our community!

As you can see our United Way is always hard at work for our community, and just so no grass grows under our feet, our two  Campaign Chairs Jayne Dunkmann and Ryan Freeman are already at work on the 2017 campaign, which officially begins later this summer. To be honest I’m a little nervous about what those two have up their sleeves--it seems like some of us are always targets of fun and games during this time of the year! With the annual campaign in mind, I hope all area businesses  and organizations have started to brainstorm fun and exciting ideas for those workplace campaigns. If you’re looking for ideas for your workplace campaign, or if workplace campaigns are new to your business, United Way is happy to help! They have great ideas; like pie throwing, rock paper scissors contests, pig kissing and many more. So if you’re short on ideas please give them a call at 573-636-4100!

For those businesses that are not familiar with our United Way, please call the office to discuss how you can get involved in helping our community. If you know a United Way Board Member or volunteer please don’t hesitate to reach out to them to ask your questions. If they don’t have the answer they definitely know who to call. Investing in our United Way is a great way to make a difference in our community!

So please remember to GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER so we can all LIVE UNITED for many years to come! On behalf of the United Way of Central Missouri we thank you for your most generous support!
