Welcome to the Week of the Young Child page!
We are so excited about all of the fun activities and events planned for this week! The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young families, their teachers and families. This event is brought to our community by the United Way of Central Missoui's Early Childhood Initiative. United Way of Central Missouri is grateful to the Early Childhood Advisory Board for coordinating the schedule of events to make it a fun experience for children, Childcare Centers, homes and families. Advisory Board members consist of: Cole East Head Start, Child Care Aware® of Missouri, Jefferson City Day Care Center, Jefferson City Public Schools, Lincoln University, Parents as Teachers, Southwest Early Childhood Center, The Special Learning Center, The YMCA Child Development Center and United Way of Central Missouri.
We have provided activities and resources for families and childcare providers to enhance their activities during this week. Implement the theme of each day in your plans, and follow the steps below to celebrate Week of the Young Child with your early learner(s)!
We will kick-off Week of the Young Child with a Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting on Monday, April 24 at 9:30 AM at Southwest Early Childhood Center, 812 St. Mary's Boulevard, Jefferson City. Join us as we begin our week-long celebration of our youngest learners!

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We will promote the activities throughout the week, including a fun Social Media Children’s Character Challenge to build awareness for Week of the Young Child through postings of favorite children's characters such as “Pete the Cat”, “Clifford”, or any other book character. Participate and stay tuned on our social media!

Additional resources can be found on the National Association for the Education of Young Children's website to celebrate Week of the Young Child.
